KWEKWE United FC announced that Torwood Stadium, will be their home ground in their debut Premier Soccer League (PSL) season next year.
Following their historic promotion to the top tier league, the club’s management has opted to use Torwood Stadium, a facility with a rich history and sentimental value to the community of Kwekwe and Redcliff.
The ground was last used by its owners Ziscosteel FC in top flight football nearly 25 years ago.
“As a club we have settled for Torwood Stadium”, said club President, Phil Makekera.
“We are currently negotiating with Ziscosteel management for the use of the stadium and after that we will be able to know the actual total costs of renovations.
“After assessing all stadiums in Kwekwe we settled for Torwood stadium because it is less expensive to refurbish the ground. It is less expensive to renovate and meet PSL requirements,” he added.
The Club did also rule out using the under-construction Chahwanda Stadium as a contingent plan.
“For us to be successful in achieving our target it needs a collective unity and support from the community as there is a lot of work to be done at Torwood Stadium.
“The opportunity is there to use Chahwanda Stadium if completed. We are yet to meet with the owners of the ground. We do not want to go and play our games in Gweru, we are Kwekwe United for Kwekwe,” the Club President further said.
