KWEKWE: Poshayi St Mary’s emerged the winners of the 2024 PASSAF Competitions held at Kwekwe High School recently.
The competitions evaluate pupils’ knowledge and appreciation of traditional medicine.
The team’s tutor, Percy Mapudzi said he was excited on their achievement saying it shows how the advanced herbal garden has helped pupils gain more knowledge on traditional medicines.
“We are happy to be winning this accolade. This shows that our efforts to developing a herbal garden at the school did not go in vein.
“Once a barren landscape, the school has been converted into a thriving oasis of herbs, earning it the nickname “Garden of Eden and the development has helped us scoop this accolade,” Mapudzi said.
He further said, “We do not only aim to capacitate pupils on traditional medicines but to give the more about indigenous knowledge systems”.
Meanwhile, the scholarly world has been advancing research in indigenous knowledge arguing that it is the basis for self-sufficiency and self-determination and adding that people who are familiar with indigenous practices and technologies have abilities to understand, handle, and maintain them better than introduced western practices and technologies.
