Duo convicted in vigilante killing

GWERU – The High Court Circuit in Gweru has sentenced two men from Lower Gweru for the vigilante killing of a domestic dispute suspect on December 22, 2020.

Milos Dlodlo had allegedly assaulted his wife when Cephas Mangena and Edward Edwaed Dube intervened and assaulted him leading to his death.

Apart from assaulting his wife,  Dlodlo allegedly set some of their huts on fire.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the wife met Mangena and Dube after the assault and torching if huts and narrated what had happened.

The two went to Dlodlo’s house to assess the situation.

Mangena struck Dlodlo with a hoe handle when they was him at his home and he fell down.

Dube, who was armed with a knobkerrie joined the assault and the two continued assaulting him indiscriminately all over the body.

The duo tied Dlodlo’s hands and legs with barbed wire and locked him in his bedroom and left.

Dlodlo was found dead in his bedroom the following day. A post mortem done concluded that the cause of death was extensive bleeding in the head caused by an injury to the head.

Mangena was sentenced to six years in prison with four years suspended, resulting in an effective two years in prison.

His accomplice Dube was sentenced to 24 months in prison, with 12 months suspended resulting in an effective 12 months imprisonment.

The NPAZ warned the public against taking the law into own hands but should always uphold the law.
