GOKWE – A five-men gang has been sentenced to 20 years in jail each for the brutal murder of a rival in Kwekwe.

The five, Only Ndlovu, Tanaka Pande, Tawanda Nyoni, and Goodlot Chitatu all from Kwekwe and their accomplice Munashe Denzel Machingura from Zhombe brutally murdered Henry Mlilo on November 27, 2021 at Plot 74, Riverside in Kwekwe.

The National Prosecuting Authority said the five acted in concert and connivance ambushing Mlilo at a rural property.

The gang, which was armed with machetes, stones and an axe viciously assaulted Mlilo leading to his death.

All five were found guilty of murder during trial at the Gokwe Circuit High Court.

The court ruled that the group’s deliberate and sustained attack showed clear intent and a wanton disregard for human life.

The NPAZ said the 20 year jail sentences reinforce the State’s position that violent group crimes will be met with stern justice.

Meanwhile, Bright Chiweshe (34) who was arraigned before the High Court in Gweru in connection with a death that he caused at C-Mine, Mberengwa has been found guilty of Culpable Homicide.

The court found Chiweshe guilty of Culpable Homicide after he acted negligently when he switched on a machine without checking if anyone was in there.

He was sentenced to 12 months in prison wholly suspended for three years.

The case happened on February 22, 2025 after Chiweshe switched on the round mill crushing Tapera Manjonjo’s legs who was inside the machine.

Manjonjo sadly passed away two days later due to the injuries while receiving treatment in hospital.
