GWERU: The ZANU PF youth league has dismissed utterances by Jim Kunaka on allegations that the ruling party’s leadership has a power transfer deal saying the ‘renegade’ has no legal standing to speak on behalf of the party while emphasising that ZANU PF is a democratic institution which follows its constitution.
A video of Kunaka flanked by a team which calls itself the “Original ZANU PF Youths”, has been circulating on various social media platforms claiming that President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Dr Constantino Chiwenga have power transfer arrangement that the former has disowned and should be removed from power.
During a presser held in Gweru, Zanu PF Youth League Secretary for Legal Affairs, Phineas Makombe said ZANU PF subscribes to its constitution.
He also said Kunaka and Tsenangamu have no right to discuss ZANU PF Affairs saying they are non-party members who have not been re-admitted into the party.
“This morbid comedy of error is led by one Tsenengamu and a Kunaka. With regards to the legality of their claims I have seen it most prudent to refer to the self-same constitution that is the cornerstone of our Revolutionary Party.
“First and foremost: there is no Party structure called Original ZANU PF Youths. These two agent provocateurs, charlatans and kantangaras characters have not been reinstated into the Party which long expelled them,” said Makombe.
On allegations that President Mnangagwa is forming parallel structures through the formation of organisations that support his vision, Makombe says the assertions are being peddled by people who are ignorant about the constitution and history of the revolutionary movement.
“The party constitution states that; any organization, association or society whose members are citizens or residents of Zimbabwe and whose aims and objectives are not inconsistent with those of the party can be members of the party”.
“The above allows for the formation and existence of affiliates of the Party. This has been the basis for the formation and continued existence of notable organizations like the War Veterans Association, the War Collaborators Association, Children of War Veterans Association etcetera. This has lately seen the creation of more groups such as; Young Women for ED, Men BelievEd and Councillors for ED to mention but a few,” he added.
This however comes at the height of talk that ZANU PF has again supposedly fallen into wearing factions with one fronting President Emerson Mnangagwa while the other is supposedly vying for his deputy Dr Chiwenga.
In the public domain, Zanu PF has however maintained their endorsement of President Mnangagwa as their Presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 elections.
