MASVINGO: The Catholic head for Masvingo Diocese, Bishop Michael Dixon Bhasera (73) has resigned.
In a letter dated 19 July 2022, Pope Francis has since accepted the resignation of Bishop Bhasera with the reasons leading to the move still unclear.
“His Holiness Pope Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Masvingo, presented by the Right Reverend Bishop Micheal Dixon Bhasera,” reads part of the letter from the Apostolic Nunciature in Zimbabwe.
Bishop Bhasera was appointed to his position in 1999 and is credited for initiating a number of developmental programs across Masvingo.
Archbishop of Harare, Reverend Robert Ndlovu has since been appointed as Apostolic administrator of Masvingo pending the appointment of a new bishop for the diocese.
