Five in custody for assaulting intruder to death

ZVISHAVANE: Five Zvishavane employees of Gratina Milling Plant are currently in police custody facing murder charges after they reportedly assaulted an intruder to death.

The now-deceased has been identified as Amon Mapingire (34).

Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko has confirmed the incident.

“It is alleged that the now deceased unlawfully entered into Gratina Milling Plant premises breaking locks to several rooms. Mapingire who was accompanied by other unidentified men was caught while trying to escape the alert employees.

“He was tied both hands and feet with a rope where he was assaulted several times with sticks all over his body by the five men that had seized him. The matter was reported to the mine management who took Mapingire to Zvishavane police but died upon arrival at the police station,” Mahoko confirmed.

The matter was reported to the police who attended to the scene and found that the body had injuries.

Police also say investigations are ongoing.
