GWERU: ZIFA Central Region Division says it is ready for resumption of football and adequately prepared to meet Covid-19 protocols as outlined by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC).

Speaking during a presser held recently, ZIFA Central region acting chairperson, Thomas Marambanyika said they are happy to announce resumption also highlighting that they used the break to partner with sponsors for improved remuneration.

“Yes, I can safely say our affiliate has always been ready for the resumption of football and we are happy that it is now officially here. We have used the break to achieve positives though as we managed to engage different sponsors towards improved revenue collection and remuneration for affiliates,” said Marambanyika.

Speaking on the same sidelines, ZIFA Midlands Province chairperson, Previous Mathe also said nurturing of upcoming talent has also not been forgotten within the latest development.

“Upcoming talent has never been forgotten as Midlands Province has identified 20 developmental football teams from different communities from which talent would be drawn.

“Every sports person deserves to be awarded a chance to fulfil their dream and thus we will support grassroots football as sporting activities resume,” added Mathe.

Due to COVID-19, football, rugby, basketball, volleyball and boxing are among the sport codes that were classified as high-risk, with the decision to allow them to resume bringing relief to the athletes.
