Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) recently elected a new national board at YWCA Mkoba which will run for the next three years according to YWCA Zimbabwe constitution section 19.3.
The guest speaker, Professor Mercy Kurebwa encouraged women to be empowered so that they take leadership positions.
” I feel so happy when women are taking higher positions, an empowered woman is always confident in everything she does,” said Kurebwa.
Incoming President Glenes Mangwiza who is a midwife by profession said YWCA is an innovative organisation which contributes to equipping women in different communities.
” I am so humbled to be the President of YWCA together we are going to build the girl child and women so that they are not exploited. Women will be taught survival skills through various projects that will be rolled out,” said Mangwiza.
Outgoing President Violet Magodo encouraged the incoming committee to work hard and continue raising the organisation’s flag high.
“Today I want to congratulate you for being part of the national board, everyone looks up to you therefore you must produce results,” said Magodo.
The elections were running under the theme “Towards Strengthening the Women’s movement for a just society where women live fulfilled and empowered live”.
