HARARE – Botswana’s women football team has each received close to US$1,000 as a morale booster ahead of the first leg of the make-or-break tie against Zimbabwe at the National Sports Stadium on Friday.
The winner of the two legs will qualify for the Africa Women Cup of Nations (Awcon) scheduled to take place in Morocco in July.
Lucara Diamond Company is leaving nothing to chance and announced motivational funding to the tune of P300, 000 (US$26,000) with each player walking away with P11, 000 (US$953.22) while team officials will receive P5, 000 (US$433.28).
As for Zimbabwe, ZIFA reported via their social media handles that the team last week received “a special visitor in Hon. Tino Machakaire who handed over sanitary ware donated by Footballers Union of Zimbabwe.”
At the event, the women footballers pleaded with the minister for assistance in the provision of football boots (video above).
Meanwhile, Friday’s match will be played behind closed doors as the stadium does not meet CAF minimum standards.
