GWERU – The ruling  Zanu PF must continue to push agricultural productivity and a prosperous development trajectory, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said Friday.

Officially opening the Zanu PF 20th National Conference here, the President said the party must guarantee food security in spite of the effects of the predicted climate change.

He said it was imperative for his government to continue to guarantee success in agriculture and food security.

“Let us therefore continue to guarantee successes in agriculture and food security, mining, manufacturing, and tourism, among other sectors.

“The last five years have shown what we can achieve as a people when we are peaceful, united, and hard-working.

“This is what we will continue to do as ZANU PF,” said President Mnangagwa.

He said the ruling party must give directions to the government through proffering solutions to the country’s challenges.

“The stage of our national development requires us to be solution givers, not problem creators, towards proffering and implementing high impact policies, projects, and programs to address challenges facing our people.

“It is my expectation that the Resolutions of this important event of our Party, must drive production, productivity, and a prosperous development trajectory for our nation,” he said.

During the conference, Vice President Constatino Chiwenga also highlighted that those talking about the prospects of an inclusive government must wake up from the daydream as the ruling party had no such intentions.

“I urge us all to forget about some divisive opposition parties who continue to daydream about an inclusive government that will not take place. There is no talk of that in Zimbabwe Zanu PF has won the harmonized elections and formed a government according to our laws.

“Our President is focusing on production and productivity and development,” he told the delegates.

VP Chiwenga also rallied Zanu PF members ahead of the December by-elections to be held in 14 constituencies in Bulawayo and Harare provinces and urged disgruntled members against turning to independent candidates.

“Let me remind you that we will soon be going for by-elections, and our President has urged us to remain united as a party with the single purpose of developing this great nation.

“We should maintain disciplined and uphold party ethos under our sole leader the President and First Secretary of the party Cde ED Mnangagwa…in fact let us forge ahead in the implementation of ongoing programs and projects,” he added.

The 20th Zanu PF national conference is running under the theme: Towards Vision 2030 through devolution, industrialization, and modernisation.
