NANGO’s T2R program a game changer – Stakeholders

GWERU: Bringing regulators and CSO’s to one table where issues and unclear regulation were discussed was an area stakeholders welcomed as NANGO Midlands hosted ‘Talk to The Regulator’ program aiming to strengthen relations between duty regulators and their stakeholders.

The City of Gweru, reading a speech on behalf of Mayor Martin Chivhoko acknowledged the importance of CSO’s though emphasising the need to be clear on regulation and how they can collaborate for development work.

“I would like to acknowledge the crucial role that NGOs play in our society. Your tireless efforts to address various social, economic, and environmental challenges are truly commendable and have positive impact within our communities.

“It is however important that we interface towards policy dialogues so that the working environment is enabling for both parties,” the Mayor’s speech read.

NANGO Midlands Chairperson Charles Mazorodze also added on the importance of such meetings.

“Through this meeting, we aim to foster a spirit of collaboration and mutual understanding between CSOS and regulators, as well as enhancing trust between NGOs and regulatory bodies,” Mazorodze said.

National Association of Youth Organisation (NAYO) Clusters Coordinator Macdonald Munyoro who was also present at the meeting further highlighted that the need for improved local collaborations and flexible working environment for CSO’s mainly focusing on how civic organisations have been affected by the blanket freeze on donor aid by the American government.

CSOs, facilitated by NANGO play a crucial role in accelerating the goals of Agenda 2063, Vision 2030 as well as NDS1 by advocating for policy changes, implementing projects, and providing technical assistance all in a way of fostering development.

Key issues discussed include registration and compliance requirements, funding regulations, and reporting obligations as well as ways to strengthen partnership and improve communication channels.

Regulators present included the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Gweru City Council, National Social Security Authority and ZIMRA among others.
