GWERU – A Kwekwe man who allegedly raped a 10-year-old employers’ granddaughter and cut off his manhood in a suspected act of mental illness recently appeared at the Gweru magistrate’s court.

The accused man (23) was remanded to October 8 from his hospital bed at the Gweru Provincial Hospital where he is receiving medical attention.

The national prosecuting Authority (NPA) Zimbabwe made an application for the accused to be examined by two doctors in terms of the Medical Health Act and the application was granted.

It is the State’s case that, the accused dragged the complainant into an unfinished house in Masasa Park low density suburb where he told his victim that he wanted to have a sexual relationship with her.

It is alleged that the accused threatened to kill the accused if she screamed or told someone.

“He then removed her clothes before allegedly raping her. The accused person only stopped when he heard a voice calling the complainant’s name,” the court heard.

It is after this incidence that the accused allegedly cut off his manhood with a knife “screaming that the complainant was his wife,” the court further heard.

The matter came to light when the complainant confined with her grandmother about the sexual abuse.
