SHURUGWI: Some families in Pasimupindu area in Tongogara; Shurugwi are reportedly stranded following a series of heavy rains accompanied by heavy winds ripped through the area recently.
Shurugwi District Civil Protection Unit chairperson, Desmond Gumbochuma confirmed the sad development also noting that they have not yet managed to access the affected areas as all routes leading to the area are flooded.
“I can confirm that some families in ward 16 were affected by floods and my team has been running around trying to asses the situation. Unfortunately, we could not get to the affected sites due to various reasons including impassable flooded rivers. We have however alerted the Provincial team to assist,” Gumbochuma said.
Appealing for help, Shurugwi North legislator Ronald Nyathi said more houses could be destroyed if the rains continue as anticipated.
“We really need assistance so that we are able to reach out to the affected families. The affected are in urgent need for food and shelter among other necessities and help is needed urgently because if more rains pour, more families may be affected as well,” said Nyathi.
