GWERU: A Gweru based self-proclaimed prophet Tafadzwa Shumba (21) was recently dragged before the courts facing rape charges after supposedly inserting his finger into a minor’s vagina claiming to be removing evil spirits.
It is the state’s case that on 18 April 2020, at a bushy area near Chalton Park in Gweru, the accused person who is a self-proclaimed prophet told his victim aged 13 that he wanted to remove bad spirits from her body.
“They both went to a secluded area and accused person ordered complainant to remove her trousers. She refused and accused person forcefully removed complainant’s trousers to knee level.
“He then inserted his finger into complainant’s vagina twice without her consent. Complainant screamed and a passerby heard her who then helped her,” reads the state outline.
Shumba was remanded in custody to 3 May 2021.
Magistrate Ediwn Marecha presided over the case while Mirirai Shumba represented the state.
