GWERU: City of Gweru Director Of Housing Services Shingirayi Tigere was last Friday granted ZWD$20 000 bail in a matter in which he is accused of selling a residential stand to the city’s mayor without government approval to change of use.
Tigere (58) had appeared before Gweru magistrate Edwin Marecha facing criminal abuse of office charges.
It is the State’s case that Tigere in his capacity as Director of Housing and Community Services effected the sale of reserved stand being the remainder of Lot 17 of Bickford of the Umsungwe Block measuring 7801 square meters to Gweru Mayor Josiah Makombe.
The state also argues that the accused acted unlawfully and contrary to or inconsistent with his duties as public officer by showing favor to Makombe.
Marecha remanded Tigere out of custody and ordered him to reside at his given residential address in Kopje and not to interfere with investigations.
The complainant in the case is the state represented by acting town clerk Vakai Chikwekwe.
