GOKWE: In an unusual development, a Gokwe man, Tashinga Mutengarenga (22) stole a vehicle at a funeral from a colleague, Desire Pendekwa who was attending the same ceremony in Gokwe’s Mapfungautsi area.

Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and said the suspects’ luck ran out following a high-speed chase which saw him plunging into a culvert.

“Pendekwa parked his vehicle and removed keys while attending a funeral. Upon return he could not find his car which prompted him to make a police report. Police swiftly reacted and located Mutemarenga who tried to escape on realization he was in trouble.

“During the chase, he failed to negotiate a curve and plunged into a culvert. He was subsequently arrested and the car was recovered,” Mahoko said.

The police however made an appeal that motorists lock their vehicles when leaving them parked.
