In yet another episode of a worrying trend, the police are investigating a murder case where Kelvin Nyathi(28)was struck with a brick near Ok supermarket, in Gweru Central Business district.

Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko has confirmed the incident and circumstances surrounding the matter.

The incident took place at about 0450 hours on 04 November 2021 and Emmanuel Maparutsa (28) is alleged to be the suspect.

“Preliminary investigations established that the two were standing outside Ok supermarket when they had an argument. It generated into a fist fight. The suspect started running away while the now deceased chased after him.”

“He caught up with him and in the process, the suspect picked up a brick and used it to hit Kelvin several times on the head. When Kelvin became unconscious, the suspect ran away from the scene but was pursued and arrested by members of the public who were nearby,” he said

The suspect was handed over to the Police who later attended the scene. There has been an overwhelming upsurge of murder cases in the Midlands of late, a situation forcing the law enforcers to call for divine intervention.

Police are urging members of the public to solve disputes amicably.

“Once again a precious life was lost in what appears to have been a very petty issue. We call upon the church, community leaders and all responsible persons to preach messages of peace. May churches help in prayers for God’s intervention so that peace is embraced at all levels of our society”.
