GWERU: In a sad development, a 11-year boy from Maboleni in Lower Gweru was involved in a fatal accident after a scortch cart he was aboard overturned.
Midlands police spokeperson, Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incidence .
“Ntandokayise Ncube (11) was driving an ox drawn cart without being led from Maboleni Buisness Center proceeding home with Muzingaye Teddy Ntini on board along an unnanmked bush road.
“Whilst on their way, the scotch cart hit a tree stump which was on the road side. It overturned and hit the now deceased on the head. He sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot,” Mahoko said.
The police also advised that parents should safeguard against such accidents by making sure that ox drawn carts are led.
“It is sad that life of a child was lost in these circumstances. Parents are reminded to always bear in mind that it’s their duty to guard against accidents of this nature by ensuring that animal drawn carts are always led,” Mahoko said in advice.
Ox drawn carts remain a major source of transport in rural Zimbabwe.
