ZHOMBE – A 17-year-old girl committed suicide by drinking rat poison over a US$50 allegation misunderstanding.
The teenager, Moreblessing Mazani drank an unnamed rat poison at their home at Mlotshwa Village under Chief Samambwa on August 17 at about 5pm.
Police said Mazani was at home with her mother when their neighbour Beauty Sinyoro arrived.
Sinyoro alleged that the Mazani had stolen US$50 from her.
Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko highlighted that the teenager denied stealing the money.
Out of anger, she went and drank rat poison and was moments later found lying on the ground at the gate with froth coming out of her mouth and nose.
Police further said efforts to save her life were fruitless.
Meanwhile, police in Kwekwe have launched a manhunt for three men in connection with an armed robbery in Kwekwe where a 29-year-old man was robbed of US$7 000.
The trio approached Courage Mugari who was with two friends.
They requested to talk to him privately and went behind a fowl run.
The three said they were selling gold ore, but suddenly produced two pistols.
They threatened to shoot Mugari and one of the robbers shocked Mugari with an electric shocker.
“They forced him to sit down, searched his pockets and took US$7 000 and a cell phone from his pockets,” Insp Mahoko said.
The three fled after the incident.
Police however advised the public must make use of banks and desist from carrying large sums of money saying it endangers their lives.
