GWERU: The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) has dismissed utterances by Blessing Geza as being irresponsible saying they go against the thinking of the veterans of the struggle in general.
During a press briefing held in Gweru, the Association’s National Chairperson Cephas Ncube says the individual does not belong to his association and as such his views are personal as they are an attack on the association’s patron President Mnangagwa.
“It is quite disturbing that some people are going out there to denounce our leader in the pretence that they are representing war veterans.
“We don’t have those individuals in our structure and anyone who makes statements denouncing our patron does not represent us. Their utterances are unconstitutional and should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve,” Ncube said.
He further urged the veterans of the struggle to be patient saying the Second Republic is seized with several projects meant to better their lives.
The response came following Geza’s sentiments in a press briefing accusing the president of nepotism, corruption and failing to address the moribund economy.
During the press conference streamed online, Geza, a veteran of Zimbabwe’s 1960s and ’70s liberation war and a member of Zanu-PF’s central committee, called for the president to step down immediately.
The raging exchange of words follow a recent Zanu-PF conference where party leaders passed a resolution that Mnangagwa should seek a third term in 2028, assuming the party can force through amendments to the constitution.
