ZVISHAVANE: In an unusual turn of events, a victim who made rounds on social media during skirmishes that resulted in abandonment of match between Shabanie Mine and Gwanda Pirates disappeared from the scene without getting proper medical attention and making a police report.
Disputing social media reports that the victim was stabbed, police also suspect that the victim is a wanted criminal as he neither proceeded to the hospital for proper medical attention after being attended by first aid teams, neither did he make a formal police report.
Police say he actually ‘vanished’ from the scene.
A police report seen by CommuTalk says the fan seen on a circulating social media photo had a laceration on the ear after being hit by a missle.
He is also fingered as one of the people involved in the violence.
Police also says when they went to his place of residence on Sunday evening, he ran away. They went on to say there was no gunshot at the statdium as was said on some social media platforms.
Onlookers however say, it was the Gwanda Pirates fans who started violence throwing missiles to Shabanie Mine fans.
This supposedly led the Shabanie Mine fans to retaliate in full force, forcing Gwanda Pirates fans to jump over the perimeter fence onto the pitch for safety.
ZIFA has since written regretting and condemning the incident.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) expresses its deepest regret and condemnation of the violent attack that occurred during the ZIFA Central region Division 1 match between Shabanie Mine FC and Gwanda Pirates…” wrote the soccer governing board in a statement.
