GWERU – The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Midlands Owen Ncube has commenced the handover of 250 laptops to schools throughout the province.
Ncube this Monday handed over 10 laptops each to Nashville High and Riverside Primary Schools. The two schools also received a projector, printer and whiteboard.
The laptops were donated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa when he launched the Bandwidth Cloud Services Zimbabwe Optic Fibre Network project in Somabhula early this year under the Presidential Schools Computerisation Programme.
Ncube said the programme is a deliberate strategy to bridge the digital divide across the Midlands Province and the country at large.
“These laptops will address gaps of access to Information Communication Technology equipment identified in the implementation of Education 5.0 in our schools,” he said.
The minister said more ICT programmes and projects will be rolled out to cover all schools in line President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one no place behind.
He added that 57 computer laboratories have been established in schools across the since the beginning of this year under the Computer Lab per School Programme.
“More schools will be supported during the course of the year and beyond including rural and marginalised communities,” he addedd.
The minister urged learners from both institutions to practise good behaviour which is a recipe towards a brighter future and desired careers.
“Youths are our future leaders and I strongly warn you to desist from drugs and substance abuse,” he further said.
Riverside Primary School development committee chairperson Happiness Dziva thanked the President for the donation and said their school would put the laptops to good use.
Jafinos Mazhara, the Nashville SDC chairperson said they were happy with the donation.
Minister Ncube made a similar donation at Chiedza Primary School in Kwekwe last week and will be moving to other districts to hand over laptops.
