GWERU – A total of 120 golfers are expected to battle it out at the Commander Defence Forces annual executive interaction golf tournament and fun day at the Gweru Golf Club this weekend.
A brainchild of Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander Phillip Valerio Sibanda, funds raised will go towards assisting underprivileged members of the community.
Midlands Executive Interactive Initiative secretary Antony Hapanyengwi said all was set for the second edition of the event.
“All is in place for the interactive, which is a brainchild of General. The golf place is being sorted and we expect a full house.
“About 120 golfers irrespective of their handicaps are expected to participate…some are amateurs and some are professionals and we have invited all and sundry,” Hapanyengwi said.
He also said that there were a lot of prizes to be won and they expect high performance from the golfers with funds raised to be donated towards charity.
“The CDF targeted mainly the underprivileged in the Army at inception, but after seeing the response of the community, he has said let it transcend to civilians.
“We are looking at Jairos Jiri, Mudavanhu Zimcare Trust, and Batanai Old People’s Home among others,” he said.
Hapanyengwi challenged the public to come in numbers for this year’s event, which is expected to draw large crowds and will be spiced by new family fun activities and helicopter rides.
Other activities expected include quad bikes, horse riding, jumping castles, and an artificial pool for the children.
Entertainment will be provided by Samukoko and the Band Caritate, while 98.FM DJs Ginger, Vas, and Reason will headline the turntables.
