Man jailed 5 years for attempted rape

GWERU: The Gweru Magistrate’s court recently sentenced 20 year old Sylevester Tshuma 5 years imprisonment with 12 months suspended for attempted rape.

The state submitted that in March 2025 Tshuma unlawfully attempted to have sexual intercourse with a four-year-old girl without her consent.

It also highlighted that on the fateful day Tshuma lured persuaded the complainant to accompany him to the shops and while on the way lured her into the bushes.

The accused is said to have lowered trousers and pant which complainant was wearing and laid her down before lowering his shorts.

As he was about to rape the minor, he heard the mother’s child calling her prompting him to flee the scene.

The mother who saw the accused running and tried to chase him to no avail.

Meanwhile the complainant had been left pants down.

Tshuma was later arrested at Tree Top tollgate leading to a full trial and sentencing.
