GWERU: Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Owen Ncube, recently commended City of Gweru for its commitment to improving service delivery.

The minister made the remarks during the commissioning of new service delivery vehicles, including a minibus and three pickup trucks, bought at a cost of USD165,000.

“The vehicles before us today should translate into improved service delivery and transform the livelihoods of our Gweru residents,” Minister Ncube said.

“Accordingly, I commend the City of Gweru yet again for prioritizing provisions of key infrastructure and procurement of service delivery vehicles and equipment critical for reliable and efficient service delivery to the residents of Gweru and business community at large,” he added.

The minister also emphasized the importance of efficient and prudent use of public resources, exceptional accountability, and transparency in local authorities’ operations.

“Local authorities should also ensure efficient and prudent use of public resources, exceptional accountability, transparent as well as timely equitable services to the residents,” he also said.

The City of Gweru was also urged to promote public-private partnerships and technology driven revenue generation systems.

Further expressing the need for continuously prioritising service delivery, Minister Ncube also praised combined efforts b City of Gweru, ZRP, medical staff and community at large in attending the recent Hungwe bus accident near Fairmile Hotel.

However, this development comes at a time the local authority is facing backlash from residents over uncollected refuse.
