GWERU property mogul, Smelly Dube who was scheduled to appear in court today is now expected to appear in court this Friday amid indications that the investigating team is compiling more incriminating evidence on the land developer.
Dube who is River Valley Properties Chief Executive Officer is facing two charges of corruption emanating from the Justice Tendai Uchena commission of inquiry report on state land.
According to her legal team led by Advocate Joshua Chirambwe, Dube is facing fraud charges in relation to the sale of state land and another charge of conspiracy in the abuse of office.
Advocate Chirambwe, however, says they are not happy with the way their client who was arrested in hospital on Tuesday has been treated.
“Imagine we are yet to be furnished by the state outline since our client was arrested yesterday. The police are being evasive. Our client is battling for her life in a female ward and yet she is being guarded by male officers. Justice has to be seen to be done. Our client’s pre-trial rights have been violated,” Chirambwe told the media.
Meanwhile, the legal team has since filed an urgent High court application in Harare challenging the arrest of their client on the basis of the Uchena report which they say is yet to be made public.
