CHIVI: A five men gang pounced on a Safeguard Cash-In-Transit crew at Chivi Growth Point and got away with an undisclosed amount of money.
According to a statement from Masvingo Criminal Investigations Department, the criminals sped off towards Zvishavane using the Masvingo-Mbalabala highway.
A police statement in possession of CommuTalk reveals that the robbers were using a sky-blue Toyota GD6 vehicle when they robbed the Safeguard crew at N. Richards shop at around 10am yesterday.
“The Safeguard crew had gone there to deliver cash for Mukuru Send Money Company. The armed gang, each brandishing a pistol fire three warning shots in the air, disarmed the Safeguard crew and took away three-star pistols and a cashbox and sped off the scene using their Toyota vehicle.
“The armed robbers were later seen at Mhandamabwe Business Centre, Chivi area speeding towards Zvishavane using the Masvingo-Mbalabala highway,” the statement said.
Follow up efforts were made and are still being mapped to track the culprits, the police statement added.
“There is a high probability that the criminals possibly avoided highways and considered following small feeder roads or escape routes to their destination to avoid police interceptions.
“At Mhandamabwe Police roadblock, at the 155km peg along Masvingo-Mbalabala, they approached speeding, avoided the drums and continued without stopping,” the statement further reads.
