BEITBRIDGE: A 23-year-old man from Beitbridge, Nigel Masona, was sentenced to 16 months in prison after breaking into his brother in-law’s home and stealing ZAR4900 cash.
The Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court found Masona guilty of aggravated unlawful entry.
According to court reports obtained from the national Prosecution Authority (NPA) Zimbabwe, the complainant who was away from home received an alert call from neighbours alerting them of a trespasser.
“The neighbour informed the complainant that there was a trespasser at his home,” the NPA Zimbabwe said.
Later, the neighbour identified the intruder as Masona.
Upon returning, the complainant found that the door had been forced open, the safe had been broken into, and ZAR4900 had been taken.
A police report was immediately filed, which led to Masona’s arrest.
The court sentenced Musona to 24 months in prison for which 8 months were suspended on condition of restitution.
“The sentence reflects the gravity of unlawful entry offenses, especially when it involves a family betrayal,” the NPA also stated.
