LOWER GWERU: A Lower Gweru man, Michael Ncube (33) is battling for life in Gweru Provincial Hospital (GPH) after he was left for dead by his supposed accomplices following a scuffle over missing gold ore.

The incident happened at Chimona Milling Company in Lower Gweru.

Police say they are investigating a suspected murder case where four suspects are on the run.

The four are Andile Mpofu, Vusa Mpofu, Nhoro Bhebhe and one only identified as Timothy.

“Police is investigating an attempted murder case where a 33-year-old man was struck with an axe on the head and face by four male adults after a misunderstanding,” Confirmed Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.

“The attack came following a misunderstanding over some missing gold ore. Mpofu then struck Ncube once on the head and on the face with an axe.

“The other suspects joined in, assaulting Ncube with logs all over the body before they fled away. Ncube was later found by a passerby, bleeding and was ferried to Gweru Rural Police station where a report of assault was made,” Mahoko further said.

Meanwhile police say it is appealing to anyone with information which may lead to the arrest of suspects in this case to report at the nearest police station.
