BIKITA Minerals employees and families celebrated workers day together as they took turns to participate in different team building and sporting activities.

This year’s celebrations were jointly organised by the Zimbabwe Advanced Mining Union (ZIAMU) and Bikita minerals employees.

Addressing the more than 700 employees and exhibitors in attendance, Bikita Minerals Human Resources Manager Tonderai Charehwa said the lithium giant is focused on improving the lives and wellbeing of its employees.

“Our vision is to be the most valued and responsible lithium producer, creating a better future for its employees and stakeholders. Our values as a company are clear in that   we care, respect and value the contribution of all our employees”.

“Management will continue to employ an open-door policy with workers representatives as we believe the worker is the first pillar. Engagements at workers committee and works council level to be prioritised as such engagements drive production, company growth and employee job satisfaction”, Charehwa said.

Guest of honour and Bikita West Member of Parliament, mines and mining development parliamentary portfolio committee member Nhatiso Makusha implored on Bikita Minerals to continue prioritising the welfare of its employees.

“We applaud the Bikita Minerals management for continuously improving employee’s welfare, at a time when other mining companies are voluntarily laying off employees due to poor metal prices”.

“I call upon management and workers to work together as a team and set each up other for success. The company’s thrust of employing locals is commendable and has contributed to community development”, said Makusha.

Bikita Minerals is an equal employment opportunity company, placing more emphasis on the employment of locals.

The company recruits 80% of its employees from the local community and at present 1060 are directly employed by the mine while an additional 1400 are employed by various contractors.

The Lithium giant offers community members jobs that are safe, stable and well compensated to allow employees and their families to plan and improve their livelihoods and financial security.

Bikita Minerals pays well above the NEC stipulated rates and workers earn a monthly production bonus. The lithium giant is one of the biggest employment tax contributors in Masvingo Province
