GOKWE: A Gokwe woman was last week given 70 hrs community service after being found guilty of attempted infanticide.

It was the state’s case that Blessing Mudoti (27) from Gokwe under Chief Nemangwe dumped her baby girl down a pit latrine soon after giving birth.

Mudoti had given birth at home while alone to a healthy baby girl.

The baby was only discovered few hours later after a neighbour, Benadert Tafireyi heard the baby crying from the toilet.

Alarm was raised and other neighbours helped rescue the baby alive after digging the latrine open to save her.

Mudoti admitted to the charge of attempted infanticide before Gokwe Magistrate Busani Sibanda.

She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four months in prison of which two months were suspended for 5 years on condition that she does not commit a similar offense.

The remaining 2 months were suspended for 70 hours community service.
