GWERU: They say evil strives when good man does nothing.

The adage is so true to the actions of one land developer in Gweru River valley properties which is taking the initiative to go back to basics by rehabilitating roads and clearing drainages in Woodlands as part of compliance to government’s local authorities blue print.

The blue print which was launched by President Emmerson Mnangagwa spells out provisions to be followed by local authorities in upgrading their areas of jurisdiction.

For River valley properties, the upgrading of suburbs they constructed and submitted to local authorities is a periodic event meant to ensure the people have habitable settlements at any given time.

The property developer has gone a step further to observe the country’s national cleanup campaign where it sponsors the event in the various suburbs it has developed.

The national clean-up campaign is a brain child of President Emmerson Mnangagwa meant to inculcate the sense of cleanliness in urban areas in line with the Second Republic’s smart city concept.

“We are complimenting the government’s Presidential cleanup exercise, where we come together with the community here to clean the environment.

“There is still a lot of dumping, leading to blockages and we are here to concientise the community on the need to shun dumping through being involved in the cleanup exercise,” she said.

Apart from taking part in the cleanup exercise, Amb Dube said they have encouraged council to come up with statutory instruments that would help curb littering.

“We have urge councils (Vungu Rural District Council and Gweru City Council) to penalise people so that they do not dump everywhere.

“We have however not left the issue to council alone as they might be overwhelmed and that is why we are here today as per custom to help clean the environment,” she said.

The community is excited by the efforts being carried out by the property developer.

“We have partnered with them to clean up every first Friday of every month. We do not however confine ourselves to this only, but even in between the months.

“We want to thank RVP for the effort and encouragement every month. They always lead from the front,” SAID Gweru Residents and Ratepayers Association (GRRA) Director, Cornelia Selipiwe.

“This activity should be permanently added to the residents’ diary as there is no better good than keeping your home clean. Thanks to River Valley Properties for continuously encouraging and supporting this clean up exercise,” added a resident, Obert Rupanga.
