ZVISHAVANE: Reigning Premier soccer league champions, FC Platinum are banking on home advantage as the Chibuku super cup gets underway this weekend with the Zvishavane based side hosting three other teams at Mandava stadium.
The Platinum miners will be on familiar territory as they host group four which also features Ngezi Platinum Stars, Triangle United and Gweru based side Whawha.
Coach Norman Mapeza says he is leaving nothing to chance with the ultimate objective being to wrestle the trophy away from holders Highlanders.
“We have done quite well in terms of preparation. It’s a massive tournament for us in terms of incentives. I can’t complain much about how much we have prepared for these games. So far so good and we just waiting for the tournament to start.”
FC Platinum will, however, go into the tournament missing a number of key players through injury.
“Donald Chinya, Blessing Muwoyo, Stima, Donald Ngoma, Stima and Raffel are out as they have all suffered injuries. Having spent time off the field, it will also be difficult for the boys both psychologically and physically so we have been working on those things so that they gear up for the tournament.”
FC Platinum also have the experience of playing competitive football under COVID-19 protocols after participating in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
The Chibuku Super Cup which is a dress rehearsal for the Premier soccer league is being sponsored to the tune of USD375 000.
