HARARE: Zimbabwean comedian Leanmore Jonasi is set to headline the much-anticipated Shoko Festival, Zimbabwe’s premier comedy and urban culture event.
Scheduled to run from September 26th to 28th in Harare and Chitungwiza, this year’s festival promises an electrifying homecoming show for Jonasi.
Adding to the festival’s vibrant atmosphere, renowned rappers Voltz JT, Young Gemini, and Kayflow will deliver separate performances that are sure to excite attendees.
Festival director Farai Monro, widely known as Comrade Fatso, expressed his pride in contributing to the growth of comedy and in Zimbabwe.
“As a festival that has consistently supported Zimbabwean stand-up comedy over the years, we are humbled to have played a part in Leanmore Jonasi’s meteoric rise. We are thrilled to welcome him back home for a massive homecoming show!,” said Monro.
Monro also highlighted the festival’s role in nurturing Zim Hip Hop from its inception.
“We are proud to see how much the industry has grown and can’t wait to have Voltz JT, Young Gemini, and Kayflow rocking our stages..,” he added.
Jonasi gained international fame with his debut on America’s Got Talent, where he impressed the judges and received a Golden Buzzer from American TV host and actor Terry Crews.
This year’s festival theme, #BothSidesOfSamora, underscores the event’s commitment to celebrating Zimbabwe’s diverse urban culture and bridging the gap between social classes historically divided by Samora Machel Avenue. The festival lineup includes Shoko Comedy Night, Mashup Night, and the Peace in the Hood Concert, offering a wide range of entertainment alongside music.
Preceding the main events, The Hub Unconference will feature talks and workshops on digital media, technology, and the creative economy, setting the stage for an engaging and dynamic festival experience.
