LALAPANZI: In a bizarre incident that occurred in Lalapanzi, Village Bhudhe under Chief Chirumhanzu, a 52-year-old Lalapanzi man died on the spot after being assaulted by his brother-in-law over mangoes.
Confirming the incidence, Midlands Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the now deceased John Munjanja was assaulted by his brother-in-law over a dispute to why he had been given mangoes from their orchard.
“It is alleged the now deceased Munjanja (52) visited his sister Muchaneta Munjanja (49) and was given mangoes from her orchard. This did not go down well with Muchaneta’s husband, Samson Maredzva (42) who questioned him as to why he was given mangoes against his will.
“A misunderstanding is said to have risen between the two resulting in Maredzva striking Munjanja several times on the upper body with a log and brick for which he succumbed to the injuries. The suspect is now in police custody,” Inspector Mahoko said.
Following the disturbing incidence, the police say members of the public should desist from resorting to violence when resolving disputes to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
