Govt urged to expedite funds disbursement

GWERU – The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Midlands Owen Ncube has called on government to expedite the disbursement of funds for the Senga Messengers Camp Housing Project.

Speaking after the tour of the 64-unit housing project in Senga, the minister said he felt the project should have been completed by now.

“I implore the Ministry (of National Housing and Social Amenities) and treasury to expedite disbursement of funds to ensure timeous completion of the project now at 40 percent,” Minister Ncube said.

The minister said there was need to emphasise on the need to adhere to the work ethics of the Second Republic.

“Let us ensure provision of quality and affordable services closer to the people as we gravitate towards a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society earlier than 2030,” he added.

The project, which is being done by Pevimag Constructors he said is part of government efforts to provide decent housing underpinned by the National Development Strategy 1 housing pillar which supports the attainment of an upper middle-income economy.

Minister Ncube said infrastructure development initiatives that include road, rail, power, dams, housing, schools, clinics, and airports among others are critical in stimulating economic recovery and growth.

“This resonates with the Second Republic’s desire for modernisation and industrialisation and improvement of the livelihoods of our people without leaving any one and any place behind,” he said.

He said hard work, determination, resilience and unity of purpose has enabled the Second Republic to boost investor confidence, attract potential partnerships and funding and deliver quality infrastructure.

Gweru Mayor Martin Chivhoko applauded the project as it would bring decent housing to beneficiaries who are mainly civil servants.

He said council was also making efforts to avail stands to the people.
