GOKWE – A police officer stationed at ZRP Gokwe Main Camp here was knifed by a bar patron after a bar brawl over a commercial sex worker early this morning.
The cop, Douglas Ngwenya (41) had been drinking beer at the Puzzar Dollar Night Club, when he tried to refrain his attacker one Emmanuel Nyaku, who is on the run from attacking a rival suitor.
Nyaku allegedly stabbed Ngwenya with a knife on the back and buttocks during the melee.
Ngwenya was confirmed dead on admission at Gokwe South District Hospital by Dr Tinashe Bwanya.
According to information obtained; at around 3am this morning, Ngwenya was drinking beer in Puzzar Dollar Night Club.
At the same time, one Alice Makai (26) of Durawall Stands in the town, who is a well known lady of the night was drinking beer with his boyfriend Godfrey Mabhuku (34 ) in the same club.
“At about 0320 hrs, Nyaku, who has a child with Makai, went to where Makai and Mabhuku were.
“He questioned Mabhuku why he was drinking beer with his child’s mother and suddenly drew a knife,” state papers said.
Nyaku shredded a bag that was in Mabhuku’s hands with the knife and Clive Tshuma, a guard at the club rushed to where they were.
Tshuma managed to separate the two after hitting the ground with a sjambok he was holding.
Ngwenya came and asked Nyaku why he was producing a knife after which the two went outside together.
They crossed the road near Fortune Hardware, where Nyaku suddenly reproduced the knife and stabbed Ngwenya near the spinal code.
Ngwenya turned back and ran towards the club with Nyaku in hot pursuit.
As he got to the door, Ngwenya fell down and Nyaku caught up with him while he was down and stabbed him on the left buttock.
Ngwenya started bleeding profusely.
Tshuma went outside the bar and saw Ngwenya lying down and bleeding profusely. He liaised with a nearby taxi driver and they took Ngwenya to Gokwe District Hospital for treatment, where he was certified dead.
Tshuma made a report to the police soon after that incident.
Police made investigations where they observed a pool of blood at the night club’s entrance.
It was observed that Ngwenya had one deep cut on the upper back top near the spinal code and another on the left buttock.
A team of detectives made a follow up to Nyaku’s known hide outs but to no avail.
Police has since launched a manhunt for Nyaku.
Ngwenya becomes the second person to die after a misunderstanding at Puzzar Dollar in as many weeks.
A week earlier, an unknown man was assaulted to death by a mob after he had stabbed another commercial sex worker, Joyce Mafa on the chest after a misunderstanding.
