Dube appears in court

GWERU: Peter Dube, who has been on the run since 22 April 2021 after allegedly gunning down a local socialite and a Kwekwe entrepreneur appeared for initial remand before Gweru Magistrate Beaulity Dube and was remanded in custody to April 17.

Dube who is being charged with two counts of murder and a further two for attempted murder was not asked to plead.

He allegedly shot Gamuchirai Mudungwe and Shelton Chiduku before turning the gun on sisters Nyaradzo and Nyasha Nyaringo who survived in hospital.

The state led by prosecutor Helen Khosa alleged that on April 22, 2021 at around 11am, Chiduku, Mudungwe and the Nharingo sisters Nyaradzo and Nyasha went to Masvingo to collect Nyaradzo’s passport.

Dube who had married Nyasha as a second wife got wind that the four had gone to Masvingo without his knowledge and this infuriated him as he was suspecting infidelity between Shelton and Nyasha.

At around 8pm, Dube armed himself with a Zastra pistol and went to 11 Bensam Flats, Main Street in Gweru where Nyasha resided.

An altercation ensured at the flats which resulted in the shooting of Shelton who was seated on the driver’s seat of his commuter omnibus.

On the second count, he is accused of murdering Mudungwe who resided in Senga.

Dube shot Mudungwe once on the left cheek near the nose and she died on the spot.

Post mortem results on both occasions concluded that death was due to gunshot, acute anemic and cardiac and pulmonary laceration.

In third count, Dube allegedly shot Nyasha on the left cheek and survived in hospital.

In the fourth count, he shot Nyaradzo who was his sister-in-law and she also received treatment at Gweru Provincial Hospital and was discharged.

Dube has been on the run taking refuge in Swaziland, Ireland and Mozambique under the name Armando Quainete Muchanga.

He was deported back to Zimbabwe this Wednesday after the Mozambiquean authorities discovered he was using forged documents to stay in their country.

He had also been deported from Ireland.
