KWEKWE – The Kwekwe community yesterday gave a befitting send off to their late MP, Masango ‘Blackman’ Matambanadzo who died on Tuesday of supposed food poisoning.

His body was paraded in Kwekwe on Wednesday afternoon as two funeral processions scheduled for Amavheni stadium and a church service had to be cancelled at the last minute due to COVID-19 lockdown regulations.

Family spokesperson, Godfrey Matambanadzo said they have lost a pillar of strength who provided guidance to the entire family.

“The whole family looked up to him for guidance. We are poor without him as a family. He is the kind of a person we looked up to in addressing all our problems. Today we are celebrating his life as opposed to mourning him,” he said.

Other speakers described Matambanadzo as a hardworking and honest man.

Blackman’s work in Kwekwe Central constituency saw the people giving him a second mandate to lead them in parliament making him the only person to win a parliamentary seat under the NPF banner during the 2018 harmonized elections.

His body was later ferried to his rural home in Hurungwe where it lied in state before burial.

The late Matambanadzo had survived with wife Rumbidzayi and son, Isaac.

He was 56.
